First Draft: 4/20/2009
I am absolutely thrilled to feature my first guest blogger in April. It came about quite accidentally while chatting on Twitter. I joined in Chris Perrin’s conversation about tofu, and shared the many ways I enjoy it. Chris extended an invitation for me to guest on one of his sites with my tofu pasta sauce recipe. Naturally, I extended the courtesy, and the 4/15/2009 post is a result of our interaction.
Reciprocity is a terrific thing. On Twitter, the general consensus is follow me, follow you. Guest blogging can work much the same way, blog for me, blog for you.
The opportunity for guest blogging on VirtualAppetite was added in March 2009 under the theme of Finding the Perfect Fit Second Life. Although Second Life is an online community, in context of VirtualAppetite, second life refers to an online enterprise, a secondary Internet-based business that is a current reality for dozens of millions. (I am unable to quantify the exact number without research, which would likely made and might make an interesting blog post). Now for the guidelines.
Authenticity
Originality is important, as the blog seeks to inform and educate others about the innovative marketing: whether product launches, beverage industry innovations, or interesting topics in Internet marketing – from your unique perspective. Please do not submit content that has been published elsewhere.
The purpose of inviting guest bloggers to participate in VirtualAppetite is to provide benefit to readers derived from your personal/professional experience and perspective. Please do not simply compile and regurgitate information that you have come across, but have not had direct experience with. You as guest blogger will add a dimension currently lacking on the blog, which leads to voice.
Voice
Please do not try to mimic the detached tone of the blog. Your guest post potentially brings a personal element that does not currently exist on VirtualAppetite. Inform the readers, give them something to think about to research further and perhaps apply to their own venture.
For example, from Toshiba I was lead to further research how I might apply product launch at a trade show. Clearly my product launch will not nearly be at the scale of a mega corporation, but it led me to other resources that instructed me on how I could apply the concept on a smaller scale. Share a similar insight you have had about something you learned about launching a product, a business or something else unique and appropriate.
Submitting
Please limit your post to a maximum of 400 words. Please provide paragraph headings to call attention to the topic you are emphasizing where appropriate. See 4/15/2009 guest blog for example.
If you are interested in submitting a guest post, please make contact with me via Twitter, or send me a note from the contact form on the blog. I will then send you an email address to send your post to. Please do not send any attachments, simply include your post into the body of the email you send.
Please submit a photo or a link to one that can be copied, as well as one or two sentences about yourself with your post.
Editing
I have no desire to edit your work. However, I reserve the right to do so if the post is over 400 words. Telling a story in 400 words can be challenging, but do your best. I will try to be flexible with a little leeway, but kindly do not submit a post greater than 400 words including title, paragraph headings, byline, bio and links.
Reciprocity
Please let me know if and what you would like me to write for your blog.
Talk to Me
If you have any questions about your post, my intent or anything that you might need clarification on, please let me know. I want this to be an enjoyable experience for you.
What’s In It For You
Reciprocity. Blog for me. Blog for you. VirtualAppetite is a new blog, established the latter part of December 2008, and is still evolving. Guest blogging is my way of building relationships with online acquaintances. Any improvements made to the site and marketing efforts engaged in to promote the blog will benefit us all.
Fine Print
We reserve the right to refuse any post, and you will always be provided with a reason why and an opportunity to resubmit.
We also reserve the right to amend these guidelines at any time, given this is the first draft, it will likely be updated in the near future. The revision date will always be reflected at the top of the page that contains the guidelines.
